For years I tried to avoid going out
To eat ..... I could always cook at home for much less

However, in recent years I put “going out to eat”
In the entertainment budget
I don’t go see new movies anymore or have a woman
That will order the most expensive meal on the menu with a few 8$ drinks
So I do enjoy going out once in a while

The days of a dollar hot dog or 2.50 cheeseburgers are over

I love love love fried clams .. whole gut not just the chewy heads
So I will go all out for seafood

Tho I love steak ... tough for me to justify paying that much ( been a butcher over 35 yrs)

I love lobsters and refused to buy one at a restaurant
Til I was over 40 ( grew up on a lobster boat and ate them everyday in summer)

We save to go out to eat at high end places, maybe 2-3 times a year. Sometimes you just want to relax
and be waited on and eat really good food. With wine we will spend $200.00 to $300.00. Yes we can make good food at home, but we like to treat ourselves sometimes. Oh, sometimes we will bring our own wine and pay the "corking fee".

Wow, this is a hard one to answer. It depends on whether we are talking pick up or set down, alcohol o not, and the type of meal. I am guessing, if I am just getting a simple meal to take home and eat, probably about $10.00 or a little less. If we are talking a special occasion which is about the only time we eat dinner out: just for myself including a couple of glasses of vino about $50 and if we are talking a casual meal just to get out of the house probably $20 or less even counting a glass or wine. I am talking a run of the mill Chinese or Mexican restaurant. Of course if we are talking drive through or something like Popeye's which we do rarely more like $10 or less.

At a nice restaurant, I’ll typically have a glass of overpriced wine and an entree that is $25.-$30.
Fast food runs about $7.-$8.

If no alcohol, $10-$15. If alcohol, $20-$30.

We once spent $400 for meal at a fine restaurant. Gary Dankos in San Francisco this was our honey moon and well worth it. but on average for a fine restaurant $100-$200 and we do like to order alcohol.

It used to be $15 per person when I lived in Chicago. However, here in the Tucson, I am more likely to spend under $10 per meal per person.

I try to keep it under half of my hourly pay. Ideally, 5 or under is best. 10 is my max. Eating out is too expensive and cooking is cheaper.
