Call me weird, but when I drink a full sugar soda I prefer store brand cola because it's less sweet than Pepsi or Coke. But I prefer Coke to Pepsi by a wide margin. As others have stated, Pepsi tastes sweeter and flatter to me than Coke.
I like Pespi better than Coke but they are pretty interchangeable to me. When ordering at a restaurant or fast food joint, I will take whichever one they happen to carry. I have always thought Pepsi was sweeter.
For a long time, I didn't really care if I go to an eating establishment and asked for a Coke, and the worker taking the order goes "is Pepsi, okay?" I would usually say yes and it didn't even bother me. The truth is Pepsi is way sweeter tasting than Coke, while Coke is crisper with a cleaner taste. I prefer Coke over Pepsi - if I want a Coke, why can't I have a Coke? Can you not serve both Pepsi and Coke at the same restaurant, take out, etc. - it has to be one or the other?

Some of the fast food places are owned by one or the other, and the rest probably have to have exclusive contracts. So, no, you're pretty much stuck with whichever one they serve.
I don't like HFCS-sweetened sodas, and sometimes I'd like to have a sugar-free, caffeine-free soda, particularly late in the day. Good luck finding anyone who has diet Sprite or caffeine-free diet Coke. Frequently, I will settle for water, but I don't like water with many meals. I end up carrying those Crystal Light drink mix packets. Their loss; I'd spend more money if they had my option, and soda is very profitable.

I didn't think of the exclusive contracts, which they probably get special deals with. Makes me think that even if we ask all the time for drinks we do want, we won't get them because the deals are too attractive. You would think the customer should be #1 and give them what they want. I feel like I should just bring my own can of soda and at least it won't be watered down, but they don't allow that in their restaurants, except with take-out you can just order the food. In movie theaters, they would not like that at all.
I've always thought Coke tasted sweeter than Pepsi.
