Stir fry here tonight, composed of chicken with the plethora of peppers from last week's CSA box. Brown rice (lower glycemic index) to go with. Mmmmmm.

Went to Penzey's this afternoon, both because it had been a couple-three weeks since our last trip there and were out of several seasonings, and because the daughter is moving out soon (hallelujah!) and we wanted to get her set up with the basic components of a good spice cabinet. They always have recipes there for the taking, and it's a rare day that we don't come away with at least one or two. Today's find was a "sweet potato and ham soup" that I can't wait to try; it involves cooking cubed sweet potatoes in chicken broth until tender, then pureeing in a blender, and adding buttermilk, skim milk, cubed ham and other seasonings. Sounds like a perfect fall dish, and I can't wait until Lacey's cold, wet weather meanders its way east to our neck of the woods so we can try it out. If it's as good as I suspect, I'll come back and share the recipe with the rest of y'all.

Nomad, where do you get your cracklins? I used to be able to buy some at a grocery store here in town, but now all the cracklins I see, or have bought, are those tough, chewy cracklins. I would love to be able to make some cracklin cornbread for my father, (We were actually talking about cracklins last night), but cannot find any good ones. Help?

The last I bought came from a local Publix supermarket. At least I believe that's where I got them. Will check tomorrow as I need some too.

Hello everybody! All of your dinners sound yummy! Tonights dinner will be a healthy chicken stir fry followed Im sure by some very naughty loaded nachos whilst I watch the Cowboys game (it starts at 22.15 here in Spain). Yum!
