Elston-my Mom made liver like your Dad-shoe leather!. I love it med/med-rare, lots of onions/bacon.
Prime rib-not that great heated but will make good soup-think it's where we got it-last years was to die for in taste.
Foot of snow tomorrow-local paper said today most snow since 1992. So I took stuffed cabbage out for tomorrow. Good thing after 42 years we still like each other.
Can my hubby eat at your house tonight, he loves liver! I refuse to cook it, was tramatized (sp) as a kid. That was our Fri night meal except during lent and I hated it!
Tonight I am grilling steaks, have leftover mush and onions. Daughter is making some fries and I am having a sweet potato.
Keep up the good work cyn, it's been a year yesterday that my sister quit, so proud of her.
I know, it's gross to cook, but you can get past it. You are woman.
Fry about 4 strips of bacon over med-low heat to render the fat. Then slice 1 big onion per person into the frying pan and add a bit of salt. Sizzle it for about 45 mins, flipping frequently until the onions are carmelized. Meanwhile, rinse the liver under cold water, drain and dredge in flour, salt and pepper. Push the onions to the edge of the pan, add a bit more oil, if necessary. Saute the liver until brown on both sides. I prefer it still pink inside.
Go for it.
It was a clean-out-the-refrigerator night tonight, and the result was a fine chicken lo-mein. Spouse tossed in a handful of sesame seeds, which added a very nice crunch, and we thoroughly enjoyed the finished product.
The downside, of course, is that there's no such thing as a small batch of lo-mein, so now there are three lunch-sized bowls of leftovers back in the fridge again.... Not that I object to leftovers, mind you, but we've got a new refrigerator to be delivered on Tuesday, and we're trying to empty out the existing old monster before the new one arrives. Maybe the kids will stop by over the weekend and raid the fridge for us. Either that, or else Noma and the Devil could take a road trip and help us out.... Let us know when to watch for you, friend!
Do Ozzies have practically everything airconditioned like we do in the southern USA? Or do you have to grin and bear it?
We're late bloomers when it comes to aircon but more and more we're getting over the "grin and bear it" attitude. When I grew up here, it was extremely rare to have aircon even in the offices. Just fans and opened windows. Same with schools. I don't know what the percentage of airconditioned homes is, but I'm very doubtful it's as high as the southern USA. Not yet anyway. The prices have come down but it's still a lot for many, especially pensioners.
And ceiling insulation has only recently been put into the building code. Clay tiles on the roof, no insulation, no aircon - like living in a Dutch oven, slow-cooking.
