Back when mustard came in a jar before squeeze bottles were invented, I used to dip a spoon of peanut butter in the mustard and boy what a treat. Yea I know it's weird but so am I..
AND they had mustard then?
( I really am so sorry, I tried so so hard NOT to respond in this fashion, but, as we can all see, I FAILED! I really think my blood sugar must be low, or ummmmmm my calcium is high, or ummmmmm something else that makes it not my fault!)
Tonight for dinner we had steamed rice with pork chunks stewed in basil tomato sauce.
I am so tired, I couldn't even find the thread, it was in front of my nose.
I am covering two events (a party of 200 in 2 weeks) and (a party of 300 in Octomber)... and I have to work most of the time.
I've got to make 300 sugar flowers, for the Petite Fours (I am not making those) but I have to make a Sugar Paste Center for the celebration cake.
The theme is... a water canal... let's see how I pull out the beavers.
Haven't you ever heard of having ketchup sandwiches for dinner. Believe it or not that's a real depression era food.
I lived in The Bronx as a kid and occassionally took the D train into Manhattan with friends in the 60's. We never had much money, maybe a dollar's worth of change, which covered the 30 cent round trip fare with maybe a little leftover for something (and that dime for the phone call in case we got into trouble). We used to go to the Horn and Hardett Automat, where you could slip some money into the slot and get fresh cooked foods at extremely low prices. A nice bowl of baked beans were 10 cents. If you really had some money, you could get a sandwich for 50 or 60 cents. but none of us ever did!
Many items were free, like hot water, ketchup, sauerkraut, relish etc. thus leading to the creation of "ketchup soup". Ketchup, hot water, sauerkraut and appropriate spices. It was pretty bad, but we were kids without money, so it was our culinary delight way back when!
Mackerel fillets stuffed with coriander, drizzled with olive oil , lemon juice, and white wine, a pinch of sea-salt , then baked in baking paper and I am serving home-made mashed potatoes with it and braised red cabbage. I wanted to chargrill some fennel with it but I couldn't find any to buy ! Shame , I just adore fennel.
Mackerel is one of my favourite fish, if filleted properly. So much flavour , so delicious....
Since 1918. That means ten years from now, we'll be celebrating the VELVETTA CENTENNIAL! Talk about your cheesy holidays!!
Oh, You are as bad as me with the cheesy lines!
Tonight I am hoping to be making my chicken breasts... I have some Chipotle Salsa I just purchased, corn and black beans... might bake that all up together and then put it over rice...have the BROC for the kids...of course...what would I do without that?... feeling much better today... the magic of modern medicine... I was getting so sick of take out...
