The only ethic cuisine I can think to actively diss is Inuit with all those marine mammal fats. Even then it's pretty geographically specific not to make allowances. I mean, good luck with vegetables in the Arctic.

they carve open a seal and just start eating--looks gross, but im sure some of the stuff we eat looks gross to them- (like an overdone steak )
Why not? Much of the world thinks we survive by eating deep-fried butter with lard sauce. And then wash it down with beer that tastes like flavored carbonated water. Most of our restaurants are utter rubbish -- chains, fast food, and we literally eat our weight in really bad pizza every year.
I don't think even one in 10 Americans could make their own mayonnaise without first consulting a recipe. And most people are probably scratching their heads and wondering, "Make mayonnaise? Whatever for? The jar of Kraft is right there in the 'fridge."
So, sure, American deserves to be there with the other regions.
I do too. Sushi rolls, gyoza, teriyaki salmon, chicken katsu, yakisoba noodles, chicken tatsuta, mochi...ahhh I could eat it every day. I recently had Japanese curry as well and prefer it to Indian curry.
I voted for Polynesian food. I've had it more than once and am not a fan.
We prefer the Japanese curry at our house too - it's so easy to prepare. You'd probably love hayashi too, if you haven't tried it yet ya gotta try. We are hard core Japanese market shoppers and meal preparers, the kids get into it too.

The last time I went, my lunch (salmon drowned in teriyaki sauce, too salty to even eat) came with some sort of fried things in different shapes. I bit into one, and I don't know what was inside but it tasted very fishy and the texture was squishy, sort of like tuna with way too much mayo. I had a hard time keeping my gag reflex down at the table. Only the rice was edible.
I went out for Japanese another time at another restaurant, for dinner, and ordered some kind of steak. I was given a cafeteria-type tray with compartments with a tiny piece of beef, drenched in salty teriyaki sauce, and on the side I got Tempura vegetables, which were carrots and other things covered with some sort of fried batter and they were so hard I was afraid I would break a tooth. Again, only the rice was worth eating.
My daughter eats Sushi. I tried some when out with her, and it wasn't too bad, but I couldn't look at it too closely because I know it was raw fish in there and I didn't want to gag. It was OK, but not something I would say, "Hey, that tasted great, I think I'll order that next time!"
I just don't get it. Am I missing something that everyone else sees in Japanese food? There are a lot of Japanese restaurants around--somebody must be eating this stuff and enjoying it.
Ironically the popularity of Japanese is probably ruining it. In the early days of any cuisine, most of the places tend to be more authentic because they'll be done by people from the actual country who generally know how to do the food properly. Now you had so many Japanese places but a lot of them are mediocre or worse, and some are not even run/cooked by Japanese people. Not that non-Japanese can't cook Japanese food, but these people don't even attempt to cook it in authentic Japanese style. Even in Japanese-run places they try to cater to Western tastes. You need to go to a really good Japanese place like Nobu (not necessarily that expensive) to fairly judge whether you like it or not.
I like Japanese, but it's not among my favourite cuisines.

For a wedding, they gut the seal and then stuff it with whole awks, a type of arctic bird. Feathers and all. Then they sew it back up, bury it under a pile of rocks, let it all ferment for six months, then at the wedding feast they cut open the seal and take out the birds and sort of turn them inside out with their hands to eat the insides. I saw it on TV. I should have recorded it--it's a great diet tool.
