DH just called from the store where he found 16 oz pecans for $8.00 but they are still in the shell. How much can I figure the yield of pecans will be?

Not sure what walnuts are- are they typically cheaper than pecans?

So please tell us what state and which store and price your holiday nuts are.
WOW! And I thought $8.99 for a pound of shelled pecan halves was outrageous! But I bought two pounds because it's the holidays and they go into so many things. Gotta have them. What I should have done was made the trip to Trader Joe's where they always cost less. It's only a half hour away, but I always forget about TJ's!

I thought things were more expensive at TH. Am I wrong or maybe I'm thinking of Whole Foods.

I just wish I could buy fresh crop nuts (other than pecans - I'm surrounded by fresh pecans). It seems all the nuts in shell I buy are last year's crop as they are usually dry and rancid.

I just bought blue diamond brand plain almonds for 8.99 for 16 ounces. I have seen them for 7.99 at Walmart but they were out.

I was going to buy a little bag of pistachio nuts the other day but they were $7.00 for a little bag. This was in the CHEAP grocery store. I've been noticing the high prices for a few months now and have just stopped buying nuts. I hope the prices will come down but in the meantime I'll mostly live without them.

Hannafords grocery in VT: 6.5 oz. jar of macadamia nuts is $5.99, a dollar per ounce-which sounds comparable to the bulk price given.

That's not too bad.
