I will defend subway because I work there. We only use the microwave to heat up the oven roasted chicken breast, eggs, and the meatballs in marinara sauce and soup. The meatballs are cold so they have to be heated in the microwave, so are the eggs and the soup. The meatballs and soup are then transferred to an area where the bin sits over water like a sterno would. If the person ordering does not want the bread toasted I ask them if they just want the meat heated like steak, chicken strips, chicken breast and chicken teriyaki. The other meats do not get heated in the microwave unless they are toasting them on the sandwich. The meats are cold and no one wants cold chicken teriyaki on an untoasted sub. Some employees at subway tend to be ignorant and really don't know that much. Our subway is revered as the favorite in our area because of the great service, fresh food, clean store and friendly employees. I have been told by customers they will not go to the other 2 subways nearby because the places are dirty and the owners and employees are rude and do not know how to make a sandwich.

Every time i go to subway they ask me what kind of bread, what kind of cheese and if i want it toasted or not, i'd assume if you want a melt its going to be toasted,as they prepare it right in front of you if it looks like its not to your liking say something..

I have actually had someone order a melt and all they wanted heated was the meat with the cheese melted on top. We will do that.

So, Lubby - what it is that I don't understand is (as highlighted) why does the microwaved meatballs and marinara and soup get transferred to a bin that sits over the water?
I mean, those menu items are obviously microwaved as they are ordered....so I don't get what's the deal with the transfer. If the customer does want their bread toasted or anything, that only takes a short moment...I don't see that as a reason to put the meatballs and marinara in a holding cell.
(And I am speaking to Lubby - I'm not asking anyone else.)

The bin they go in goes in the fridge every night so the sauce and meatballs/soup is ice cold. I am told that Subway wants them heated up in the microwave first. Then they sit over a hot water bath which is temperature controlled throughout the day so the soup/meatballs stay hot,Just like food stays hot at a buffet or over a pan and sterno.
