It can be for breakfast, lunch or dinner (although I see it mostly served at restaurants for breakfast and brunch).

The chicken goes atop the waffle and you use a knife and fork since I like mine with maple syrup! The crunchiness of the fried chicken and waffles with the sweetness of the maple syrup is a nice combination of sweet and savory.

Don't knock it until you try it!

I never heard of it before City-Data.

Yes, it is weird.

I also didn't know there were places called waffle houses or that people ate waffles in any other way besides with ice cream or the big "Belgian" ones with fruit and whipped cream for breakfast.

Chicken doesn't seem to go.

Breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner.... You can eat chicken and waffles any time of day.

Does the chicken go on top of the waffles? If so, how to you cut it? Is it even knife-and-fork?
Different places arrange the chicken differently. Usually it goes on top of the waffles, but sometimes its next to the waffles on the same plate. Either way, yes you fork and knife it.

Or are the waffles eaten as the equivalent of toast?
No, they're eaten like waffles.

Quote:
Do you use syrup?
You can. Most places serve it with syrup.

What's the point, really? I mean, we don't routinely eat chicken with cinnamon rolls or French toast.
Whats the point of any food combination? It tastes food together.... No different than steak and eggs or chicken and biscuits.

You must not be American. Americans would think first of waffles with butter and maple syrup, and probably not of ice cream at all (unless they are "waffle cones," which aren't really what we think of as waffles).

I haven't had fried chicken with waffles, but it sounds good. But then, I like waffles + syrup + bacon, which makes most non-Americans cringe.

Waffles are made with eggs which come from chickens. Makes sense to me.

I don't get it, to me it does not sound good.

Chicken and potatoes, yes...............chicken and waffles, thumbs down!

Chicken-sausage and eggs for breakfast, that sounds really good!

It's a delicious combination. We have several restaurants that serve it in the Bay Area. Try it, you'll be hooked.

People eat waffles with ice cream? Life truly is a rich tapestry.

Chicken and waffles is a relatively new thing on my radar, but I get it. It's a sweet and savory thing like dipping sausage in pancake syrup, or putting cheese on apple pie.
