I keep hearing Dukes and even saw a coupon for it the other day, but haven't seen it around here. Now I am curious??? What does make it different from the others?
It's mayo deep-south style... a little more egg yolk, a lot more vinegar, no sugar. So it's got more tang.

I also taste more salt in it and if I buy, I try to adjust my recipes accordingly.
Mostly, though, I'm a Hellman's gal, but it doesn't taste quite as lemony/tangy as I remember growing up, but I really noticed that taste difference when they switched from using glass jars to plastic. At any rate, I solve that with a squeeze of fresh lemon.
Hellman's is better, no question. It's eggier, or something.
I suspect most people in America don't know what home-made mayonnaise tastes like. It's what I grew up with, made with free-range eggs from our own chickens, no less. And sometimes fresh herbs. And it is not difficult to make.
