LOL I'm already getting comments about how tomorrow's potato salad isn't going to be "as good" because the Kraft mayo jar was spotted in the fridge. We'd always gotten Hellman's but I decided to try Kraft as it's a buck cheaper here. I performed my own private (!) taste test, spreading both on bread to discern the true taste of each. I preferred the Hellman's. It had more "body" and wasn't as sweet as Kraft. I did use the Kraft, though, in tuna salad and egg and olive, and liked it (nobody noticed the difference, either). There's no way I'm tossing out that jar. Anyway, I relented and picked up a jar of Hellman's for tomorrow's company. Which do you prefer?
BTW, my father always liked Cain's mayo, and I remember mom going out of her way to the only store that carried it.
I was about to say the same thing, but regardless: it won't hurt for us to jump in with our experience. I do prefer Hillmans (best food some places) I use Kraft if it is on sale and even think Aldi's does a fairly good job. For me, it depends on what you are using the spread on. For sandwiches, Hellman wins in our family, when used with other ingredients like mustard, oil, vinegar, it doesn't really seem to make much difference. Just don't try to push Miracle Whip off as mayo..
I like Miracle Whip on sandwiches but nothing else.
But around here, Duke's is the go-to mayo of choice.
I keep hearing Dukes and even saw a coupon for it the other day, but haven't seen it around here. Now I am curious??? What does make it different from the others?
If you absolutely must go with store-bought, Duke's. Duke's ALMOST tastes like mayonnaise.
But it's always better to make your own. Especially for something as important as holiday potato salad. It's not like it's a difficult process.
