They still sell B&M brown bread in NJ anyway. Both Wegman's and Shop Rite carries it. I don't think its pricey there either.

Shop Rite keeps it in an odd area however, not with the canned items, but with the baking items.

Wow! Thanks all for the additional info. Maybe we had both brown bread and date nut bread (will be checking that out as well).

It's nice to know it's still "out there."

Vermont Country Store is one of my favorites, with all the traditional products there, as well as some very interesting stuff that I had never heard of. Good idea to compare prices though.

My grandmother used to make this. She baked it in green bean cans. I wish I had her recipe. It was really, really good.

I have heard of making cakes or breads in cans... never tried it but now I'm getting the bug to try it!

Thanks for the response!

Thanks. Believe it or not, I have friends in at least 3 states who will send me, on request, items that can only be found where they live. My list includes Philippine mango strips and Grandma Brown's Beans.

Don't know how regional it is--I'm about as far away as you can get from New England, culturally as well as distance-wise, & it's available here, . But it could be here for the Winter Texans that show up every fall, too!

For that matter, some grocery stores still carry it. Or you can fix your own:
