At this grocery store I used to go to they had a Panda Express I think and it is smelled like grease and sweet n sour sauce which turned my stomach. In general I don't like grease smell like Mcdonald's.
Also heavy garlic smell.
I agree about the popcorn smell. Target used to have a horrible odor that I have not noticed so maybe they don't carry it anymore.
I rarely have had to smell liver and onions but I would agree that is not a pleasant smell either.

I don't like eating live fish.......

I love eggs too but yes an egg sandwich can be overpowering. I also have to agree with Lobster - I love it, but I don't like the smell of it cooking. Also, oddly enough - Pancetta.

I just tried looking for a recipe online but couldn't find it. It was SO good.
If anyone is familiar with it and can help, that would be great.
What a blast from the past!
I miss it.

The stuff I remember came in flat cans, which my father brought home with him from his frequent trips to Virginia to visit my elderly grandmother, who was in poor health at the time. This would have been in the mid to late 60s.

I think the similarity to Eastern European tastes is coincidental, as my paternal family is of Colonial English and French Huguenot background, with a little very distant Irish tossed in. Fish roe is a traditional dish in Tidewater Virginia - not a place where many Eastern Europeans settled historically. Now, of course, people from everywhere are well, everywhere!
