When you were growing up, which piece did you want plus others in your family? My dad wanted a breast as did my older brother, Mother had wings and liver and younger brother the pully bone piece. I wanted the back and gizzard. After that, the remaining parts were up for grabs.
My mother wanted the gizzard. I never understood that. It's hideous.
I do like chicken livers. The heart is an interesting little thing. I'll eat it but I won't fight for it.
The wishbone was always fun. Not the meat, but the bone. My brother and I grabbed it and made our wishes before anyone else could get to it.
Moose Nose Stew is served in Siberia. I think a similar type nose is the texture of a gizzard, but am only presuming. Read about the stew in Paul Theroux's Riding the Iron Rooster.
When my mom made it, it came from Gino's (now KFC). I always liked drumsticks and wings. Now I like those and thighs. DH likes the breast, so we're perfectly fried chicken compatible.
My mom has always made it all my life. She's made breasts, thighs, and legs using her time-tested homemade recipes. In most recent years, she's put together boneless breast and thigh pieces in keeping up with the times.
Every now and then, I'd ask for some of her fried chicken and I'd go to her house and she will still make it these days (and she is now 78). It's the way she always has done it. Homemade fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, biscuits, and cream gravy would be the menu.

Yeah my mum "made" fried chicken exactly the same as KFC! Never had it very often at all, we weren't allowed a lot of fast food growing up, but when we did I always wanted the drumsticks. I still pick them first on the odd occasion that we eat Kentucky Fried Crap.
