I forgot to mention two more good ones: Famous Dave's BBQ and Marie Callender's (went there a lot in the 80's and 90's). Ironically, the Marie Callender's in my town closed and is now a Famous Dave's BBQ. LOL.

I 2nd & 3rd those who've said Morton's & Ruth's Chris. In Roswell, GA, Macaroni Grille was quite good in the 90s. In Asheville, NC, Mellow Mushroom pizza was great in the early 2000s.

For on-the-road-for-days or relocating-cross-country food, Cracker Barrel is very good... better than McD's, BK, et al. If I have no choice, I'll take what I can get & be happy with it. I may not ever eat the majority of offerings on the menu, but a Subway sandwich or Big Mac, when one never eats sandwiches or BMacs, can be enjoyable once every couple of years.

Panera, Chick-Fil-A and Chipotle" :-)
The food is excellent, reasonably priced and fairly healthy for us.

(I have not been back home to my beloved San Antonio in more than 25 years,
but I would have also added the original Taco Cabana before they franchised and changed somewhat.)

My traveling companions always thought this was hilarious and would take the photo of me, posing in front of MickeyD's, waving to Dad.
Lol, I love that!

For family restaurants, Lonestar Steakhouse here in SoCal trounces the competition IMHO, and nationwide, their sister restaurants Texas & Land & Cattle also shellacks the others.

Culver's for burgers, although Steak n' Shake is good too and they have good chili.

Popeye's for chicken.

Cracker Barrel for good sit-down country food.

I like Outback for decent, reasonably priced steak.

Jimmy John's for sandwiches.

Las Palapas in San Antonio for tacos and awesome burritos.

Portillo's by Chicago is great for Italian beef!

Pizza I only do local places wherever I am. No more chains, unless it's Rosati's in Illinois or Imo's in St. Louis.

For a good old diner any time day or night it's George Webb in Milwaukee.

When I vacationed in Colorado three years ago, I tried Jimmy John's and really liked it (definitely better than Subway). There are none in my region yet.

Wendy's?

You're kidding, right?

The steakhouses are great.
