However - there is this charming little coffee shop - drive through! - in Lenoir, NC - The Blue Moose Coffee Lodge - and they do all sorts of specialty coffees . . . must be a gazillion calories in some of them . . . Wish I had their menu so I could share.
I hopefully will remember this post the next time I am in that direction.
I was at the OBX and I guess since it more of summer place that they dont drink much coffee so I stop in this coffee house and they only had perculated coffee or coffee in thermos to serve you in a little styrofoam cup.

Default Wanting to make real latte coffees at home

If I could I would have a latte every morning for breakfast, made with 'real' coffee and 'real' half-and-half. What coffee maker would be best for me? I would say the most I'd like to spend would be $300. BTW I prefer coffee without added flavorings and would like the coffee to be ready in maybe 5 min. Most of the previous threads on this topic are either out of date or do not emphasize wanting to use fresh milk.

Take a look at a Nespresso machine with an Aerolatte milk attachment.

Before jumping into an expensive piece of consumer machinery that will inevitably breakdown, try getting a moka pot and a frother. Neither should be more than $30 or so. My BIL, who teaches in Rome, uses this combo daily to make something that's close to but not quite a cappuccino.

You don't even need a machine for a quick and good latte

I think this is a good suggestion. I imagine the thrill of an at home espresso maker fades quickly. I am tempted though!
