Really. How did one not see it in the dairy aisle?

I don't serve cottage cheese for dinner very often. In my family, it was always served plain. H's family served it with fruit cocktail (yuck). I eat it for lunch a few times a week with a salad or some veggies and crackers. I would never use it in lasagna, but I do use it in mac and cheese or a tex-mex style lasagna casserole. My son hated it in mac and cheese so I would whirl it around in the blender for a bit before adding it to the casserole dish. Years ago, I blended it up and used it in place of sour cream pretty often. I can use less higher fat cheese and still have a creamy mac and cheese.

I have never heard of serving cottage cheese as a side dish for any meal. Reading this forum always gives me great ideas. Although I'm not a cottage cheese lover, and I'd never serve it as a side dish, I'd like try it for a healthy snack alternative.

I prefer it with tomatoes. That's how we always had it with dinner when we were kids. Later, going out to steakhouses, it would be served with tomatoes there, too. I prefer it with tomatoes, salt and pepper, but I can do it with fruit, too.

EDIT: I mean other fruit, haha. Tomatoes are a fruit, after all...

Count me as one who bought C.C. today for a side at dinner. Topped with strawberry preserves. Thanks for putting me in the mood!

I did not have mine with dinner because well, that's just weird but I did mixed it with mashed up boiled egg and chives and had it on toast - delicious!

Had mine with sassy salt and carrot sticks at lunchtime today.

There will be a national cottage cheese shortage soon at the rate we are going!

If you don't want to eat cottage cheese for dinner, then don't. But declaring that it should not be eaten for any particular meal is a bit much. It's just cottage cheese. It's harmless.

The wonder of this thread is not that people eat cottage cheese for any particular meal but that there are actually people who seem to feel that it is so terribly wrong that people they don't even know should not do something that harms no one.
Thanks for the laugh! I feel the same way. Wonder what it is that makes people unable to step outside their own sphere of experience to realize that there just might be another way.

Cottage cheese is so versatile, it's easy to include it at any meal.
