I know we talked some about cheese and wine not long ago, but I am wondering if folks have some good recommendations for cheese, soft and hard, mellow, sharp, US regional and imported.
Right now I am snow-bound, with a bad flu, and eating some good local chevre (goat) on crackers--delicious but a little on the expensive side.
At Thanksgiving dinner we were treated to quite a few hard and soft cheeses and I'll be looking out for them in local shops.
You eat well. You're food posts always make me hungry! Sometimes I wish I was rich, just so I could blow a $100 on cheese without blinking an eye. I could live on cheese and bread alone...
Actually I am often accused of not eating well, but certainly eating rich.
Now $100.00 would get you one barrel of cheese. What I generally do is buy 1 or 2 chunks, or containers, depending on soft or hard, each time I go to the supermarket or grocery store.
Now that I am in a very, very rural area, my choices are going to be more limited, but even here we have some good choices in small quantities. So, I probably spend about $30 per month for cheese.
I'm especially fond of Brie on French Bread (soft) as well as Gouda(hard) by itself. Goat cheese is delicious in food but by itself, it's a little pungent and strong for me.
Now you are talking my kind of food. Cheese and nuts. Almost any kind of cheese makes me feel good. I eat it nearly everyday. Now if I add some nuts to the mix--YUM!!!
Last Christmas, my daughter's school did a family project. Each child had to find out what their nationality was, and present a food from that country. We are German, Irish, and Italian/Irish on my husband's side. We presented a meat and cheese from each of those countries. I got help at the deli counter at the store to make sure I was using the right cheeses and meats. Everyone loved trying new things.
Would you share the names of all of these incredible edibles?

I love a good sharp cheddar with apple or spicy mustard, gorgonzola melted on toast points with honey drizzled on top, Spanish Tetilla or Manchego on baguette, with some pinot noir or a tempranillo wine
Oh, and of course fresh mozzarella with e.v.o.o. and cracked black pepper too!
