Years ago I would go for a Doctor Pepper when it was sold in glass bottles and was made with sugar, not HFCS. After it was changed to plastic bottles and HFCS it tasted gross. My kids like the occasional soda, so I have a Soda Stream machine at home for when the mode strikes. I use it to make seltzer as we all enjoy egg creams.
Maybe you're addicted to the fizz. Try Club Soda. No calories. No sugar. Plenty of carbonation.
Club soda has potassium bicarbonate or potassium sulfate in it. If a person is craving the fizz, they might wish to try seltzer which is carbonated without anything else added to it.

Not to stray off topic too far, but there's a term that sounds unappealing to me - "egg cream." I know that there are no eggs in most of them (I'm sure they used to have them), but I can't get my head wrapped around the name, so I'd have a hard time trying it... It's probably quite tasty though.

It's Fox's U-bet chocolate syrup (other brands work, but Fox's is best) at the bottom of the glass, add whole milk, then seltzer and stir vigorously. The top gets a thick white foamy head and the bottom is a delicious chocolate milk soda.
There never was an egg in an egg cream. The story is that an American had a simlar drink in France that had the words 'et creme' in it. Et creme became egg cream.

I'd sooner have an egg cream than a soda.
Ah - I thought maybe it had egg in it in a past iteration. Oddly enough, I have no problem drinking eggnog...go figure.
I have been trying to get better at not drinking pop, but I will still have some two-three times a week. I think I have been addicted to the carbonation. What has helped drinking flavored seltzer water. I bought a soda stream and flavor it with fruit flavors.
