My wife's Betty Crocker cookbook was one of the first cookbooks I picked up when I wanted to start cooking.

My favorites are the Flavor Bible (flavor affinities of ingredients) and Sauces. My husband's favorites are Project Smoke and How to Grill (both by Steven Raichlen). I have Joy of Cooking and Betty Crocker but I hardly look at them.

Now, before I lose my man-card altogether, I was an accomplished BBQer before I ventured into other types of cooking. Grilling??? Not so much, as I'm too impatient. I can cook pork butts low-and-slow for 12-14 hours, but I can't stop flipping something back and forth on a grill.

I came across a cookbook a few years back that is a wonderful beginning cookbook. It has a picture for each recipe and a step by step guide with pictures for the steps. I wish they didn't name it what they did but oh well.

My husband has become quite good, and I prefer any meat to be cooked by him. He makes a version of these with pork belly https://grillinfools.com/blog/2017/0...ly-burnt-ends/.

It is heaven.

We do have one cookbook I like to get lost in that is well over a half century old. I believe it was published by The NY Times.

We have a ton of cookbooks but our favorites are any of the Moosewood/Mollie Katzen books. We use them a lot. I also still love Jane Brody's original Good Food book.

I don't even use cookbooks anymore since anything you could ever want is on the internet. I find a lot of recipes at Pinterest. Or if I have something specific in mind, I will just do a Google search and find recipes/reviews and pick one. I trust the Pioneer Woman's recipes so I often check her site when I am making something to see what she puts in her whatever it is I am making.

I plan meals backwards.... I buy a bunch of stuff and then look up recipes that incorporate what I have.

When I shop, I may have some meals in mind, but from there it's a surprise, even to me.

I bought spaghetti squash with no purpose and then found the recipe I wanted Squash with ricotta, lemon, asparagus and thyme. Just have to pick up the ricotta.
