Some of the old dive bars in my area had pickled eggs that were months old. The longer they stayed in the pickle juice, the stronger tasting they were. They'd cause a fart that would leave a film on your windshield.

Speaking of eggs, do you know that if you soak an egg in vinegar the shell will dissolve but the egg will remain intact, then soak it in water and it will expand !

So the vinegar peels the egg?? Like, flawlessly?

What happens if you put a raw egg in vinegar?

I'm talking about a raw egg. Try it. It doesn't peel it, the shell dissolves and the membrane holds it together. Google it.

And as long as we're doing silly experiments, if you take a banana, it should be a firm one, peel it, then poke your finger on one end and push gently, it will separate into 3 equal potions.

After some reflection, I recognize that my definition of a "hard boiled" egg is not the same as others'. A three minute egg is not hard boiled. A true hard boiled egg has a completely solid yolk and even a little of the bluish sulfur compounds around it.

If an egg has salmonella in it, warming it until the white is solid but the yolk still under 130 degrees means that the egg will be a medium for the salmonella or other microbes to grow quickly. Perhaps this is the reason for the two hour warning.

Just don't let the egg break, it smells horrible!

Have toddlers at home??

Harry - a hard cooked egg is solid inside. If is not, then it's soft cooked and to be eaten with a spoon. So, the definition is accurate.
