Right?!?

They were completely overrated. For the whopping 500-700 calories/cupcake, I could have had something else that was more filling and did more than just satisfy my temporary sweet tooth.

Me either. Of course I am not a lover of cake and if I want a piece, (rarely) I don't want a little bite of something wrapped in a piece of paper.

Lots of places making cupcakes now and some of them are extraordinary.

I did a quick comparison of cupcake offerings.

Menu | The Cupcake Bar

Kahlua cake with Irish cream buttercream, wheat free pink lemonade...

Cupcakes - Crumbs Bake Shop - Signature Cupcakes

Apple cobbler, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting decorated with a buttercream carrot...

It may be the Crumbs are just not that special any more.

I second that. I mean, it's a freakin' cupcake, no matter what kind of stuff you put on it. These cupcakes were $5.00 and up a piece; not something you're going to go buy on a regular basis.

That cupcake contest show on the Food Network is so laughable, I can't even watch it. A group of grown people sitting there judging these little cupcakes like they are something really profound and serious, like judging fine wine.....get real

I tried a cupcake from Crumbs. It was dry.

I haven't watched that show but $4.75 for a Crumbs cupcake???? If I lived closer to my hometown,
I could buy a great torte for that price or some other great European goodies (made by grandmothers
in the back of the bakery).

I saw the cupcakes thing the same way I see how everybody thinks they are a photographer just because they can afford a DSLR.

It was bound to go out of style when so many people come out of the woodwork claiming to be able to make good cupcakes, when they can't.

I just feel sorry for people who hire these "photogs" and then complain why their wedding photos didn't come out very well. At least a bad cupcake only costs $3.00

Really not that surprising that the cupcake fad is waning - now waiting to see how long the gourmet/speciality hamburger chains will start to crash

I dont even know how it got as big as it was. Had it once and it dry and coated in sugar frosting. Never saw what the big deal was.

I agree.. I don't get it. Maybe now we can get back to the concept of a 'bakery' as being a place that actually bakes and sells BREAD!
