Good fish and chips is about the best thing known to man kind. Certainly God knew this when he decided Catholics could not eat meat on Fridays. The sad thing, it is so hard to find good fish and chips.

Tuna mornay.

When we moved here by the ocean a couple of years ago one of the first missions we embarked on was to find good fish and chips. Non Catholics but we both grew up on fish and chips.

Most of the places were pretty bland although around here at least the fish is freshly caught the same day.

Now we have found 2 local places, two within WALKING DISTANCE. There is also a good one about 15 minutes' drive away. Got lucky!!!!

If we had a place with fresh fish and chips, the fish would almost have to be cat fish. For some reason I don't think that would work. Oh well, I guess we can't have everything, but good fish period I really miss. I grew up on the west coast and dad was an avid fisherman, then we moved to DC and I got used to really good Atlantic sea food. Not to mention living in Texas we did get a lot of decent shrimp. What do we have here? NADA.

I got lucky, there are at least 2 places near me that serve very credible English style fish & chips, very delicious in their own right as well as evocative of so many childhood memories. It was a big day when you were trusted to go off alone and bring back the family's dinner, IIRC a nice paper plate of fish & chips in the '50s set you back all of $0.35!
