I've been reading comments on other sites and the low quality of the steak meat is also mentioned, so glad that I'm not the only one that's noticed how gross the steak meat Chipotle serves.
A couple of days ago I ordered a steak burrito. Blah! I give it a passing grade because I didn't vomit after I finished it. But I kept spitting out steak fat the whole time. The meat wasn't good and the other ingredients tasted mediocre. Why does this place receive so much hype?
spoiled brat and I feel the same about 5 guys. We had heard so many wonderful things about their burgers, we decided we just had to give them a try. Guess what? We couldn't see what the fuss was all about. Was it bad? no, not at all, the fries were great, but there were enough for 6 people, not just 2 of us. We threw most of them away. The burgers were not much different from any other burger and much more expensive. I guess I am just one that does not understand the hype of fast food dining. I am not saying we never go to fast food? I would be lying, but it is rare and there are only a couple of chains I think are really good for the price.
Avocados are native to Mexico. Mexicans invented guacamole.
I agree that Chinese, Mexican, and Indian food are all "Americanized" for us. I have traveled in Asia, and the food was quite different...but excellent.
I was raised in So.CA, everyone, when I was growing up had an avocado tree in their yard, we ate Mexican food as often as almost any foods and no one ever heard of guacamole. it is very new on the scene; probably in the past 40 years...As for avocados being native to Mexico, I am not even sure of that. But I can assure you, there was a time, when you visited Mexico and you did not eat anything with avocado in or on it. What you get deep into Mexico and I don't mean the border towns or the tourist areas, is food very different than what we eat here.
I love me some Chipotle. I was get a chicken bowl with everything. I want say it is the best in the world but it is a hell of alot better than Taco Bell. It's pretty hard to screw up chicken, beans, rice, lettuce, pico, sour cream and cheese.

Aztecs and Incans were harvesting avocados centuries before the white folk showed up. Earliest evidence is from Puebla, 10, 000 years ago.
40 years ago I had guacamole for the first time. In Connecticut.
You are right about the southern Mexico cuisine being dfferent. Far more interesting and varied than the Norte stuff that's found in 99% of US Mexican restaurants.
They have become progressively worse over the past year. They no longer add bacon to their pinto beans, and they also try to use more veggies than other ingredients. There are countless blogs and posts on the matter. Bloggers will remake a burrito bowl for $1.32 w/guacamole and show how much a rip off they truly are.
Count me in if they're "trying to use more veggies than other ingredients" now.
I had an ex who was not a very adventurous eater, and would have eaten Chipotle for every meal, easily, if given the choice. I got soooooo Chipotled out in the years that we were together - no variety! It's probably been over a full calendar year since I ate there, so I could probably go for some. I just had to "detox" from it. To much same-old, same-old.
I am not crazy about it either. I would go there once in awhile if it was nearby, but its not. I like the fact that it is freshly prepared, organic food, but I do not really like the flavor of chipotle pepper, and I think they put too much rice filler, and not enough good stuff, in the burritos.
We have two other chains that are better IMO: Moe's and Tequila Flats.
My biggest complaint is that if you don't like cilantro, you're fairly screwed. If they would offer a plain rice, it would at least be more tolerable.
I actually really like cilantro, but Chipotle uses way too much of it in their food. I've tried eating there two different times in two different cities, and each time all I could taste was cilantro. It was like they used no other seasoning.
