Yesterday, I put in a can of Progresso Garlic Starter, then cans of clam chowder, cream of mushroom, cream of celery soups, adding onion, basil, garlic power. It's all right, but is bland. What can I add to jazz it up a bit?

That's quite a combination. Hmmm. I'd add: pepper or hot sauce, more herbs, white wine, chicken broth or chicken, mushrooms, clams, carrots and celery, fresh greens... almost anything. I guess it depends upon what you want the flavor note to be in the finish product.

I've made 'clean out the fridge' soup a number of times, and I just keep throwing things in until it tastes OK.

Pinch of red pepper flakes or cayenne. I agree with the white wine addition, it's amazing the depth of flavor it will give. I made an herb chicken last night with cooking Sherry and it adds so much. It will also cut into that creamy sauce; it sounds so rich!

I always add bay leaf to just about any soup I make. Perhaps fresh parsley will help with the canned soup overload.

Next time, start out homemade and I think things will be better. I am guessing you are trying to come up with a soup, but I am not really sure.....
