I plan of cooking a whole lamb on a rotisserie at a large gathering but I'm concerned about the smell being offensive to some people. Lamb is my favorite meat but I've heard that some people really don't like the smell. Should I be concerned about grossing-out some of my guests?

I have to say, I like lamb, but the smell of lamb fat is not a favorite of mine. If I'm doing a roast leg of lamb, I much much much prefer to do it out on the grill so the smell doesn't linger in the house. If you are cooking inside, have other strong smells cooking as well -- lots of garlic, lots of cinnamon/cardamom, etc. -- to balance it.

I love the smell of roasting lamb - I really love the smell of lamb kidneys frying in an iron skillet.

I love the smell of roasting lamb!!!!!!!! that smell makes everything else taste good too !!

just make a sign with an arrow on it " for my guests that don't like the smell, please go outside"

its not like you lit a big cigar!!

not too long ago I went to a house that was baking beans (one of my least favorite meals) but the host takes a lot of pride in them, and most of the folks their like them.......I wouldn't have even thought to complain
about the smell, that would just be rude !!

I agree, something about the smell of lamb turns me off.

But I do like lamb, but well cooked like lamb shank. Anything besides that and the smell and aftertaste is bad for me.

Love lamb meat and the smell. No problem for me.
You can marinate it in buttermilk overnight both to flavor the meat and to tenderize it. The sourness of the buttermilk marinade creates a nice aroma in the meat.
Remember that buttermilk marinated meat's cook time needs to be reduced by 1/3 due to the tenderization process of the meat.

Great tip! Does this work with lamb chops, too? Other meats?

I love lamb. My second favorite meat (after duck). But before I serve it to guests, I do always check that they will eat lamb. I've found out the hard way that some people refuse to try it after a bad encounter with the gamey lamb we got in the old days (here in the US).

I just won't eat it. Not because of the smell but for sentimental reasons - Mary and all that.
