I would suggest you check the net or your cook books for a recipe, you should be able to but you would have to use very little pumpkin. Of course it should work, and yes, you should find a recipe calling for the canned pumpkin.

Pumpkins and squashes and gourds all belong to the same genetic family - Cucurbita. Within that family are several species or subgroups - Cucurbita pepo, Cucurbita maxima and Cucurbita moschata. The pepo species is usually recognized as the true pumpkin.


This is what I found about the Pumpkin/Squash issue.

I'm not sure why it has become an issue however, they are of the same genetic family (see above) but part of a specific sub group of said family.

There is a squash called Kabocha that looks like a small green hubbard squash. It is very popular in Japan....and they translate Kabocha as "pumpkin".

It is a delicious squash.....when I see one over here.....I buy it.
