No.. You order a side of rice and beans (half and half) for 3.50.

The 3.50 side of rice or beans is double (nearly triple) the lunch portion. So you get it half and half and pay 3.50

Sorry for the confusion.

From menu example
1 taco,, rice beans
Alacarte 6.45
Dinner: 7.95
Lunch special: 6.95
Got it, thanks.

I don't see anything wrong with the pricing. A la carte is always more expensive than ordering a full plate. Lunch specials are usually $1-$2 less and serve a little less food (lunch portion). Like I said, usually people who order off the a la carte are ordering something that isn't on the menu as a platter. I've never known a la carte to be cheaper. That's my biggest gripe with steakhouses. Not to get off topic but there's tons of them where the sides are "a la carte" instead of them including one side dish with their $45 steak lol

Right but you see that a la carte is cheaper than the combos in the above example? All three line items result in the same food showing up at your table.

I found a third example with an online menu.

A place called Mexican deli.

Taco rice beans combo 6.49

Taco 1.85
Rice 1.75
Beans 1.75
Total 5.35

The combo costs 1.14 extra for the same food.

No. A la carte you're ordering ONE taco, that's why it's cheaper. Most taco plates/platters come with 2 or 3 tacos.

These come with one taco. That's why I'm tripping.

That's impossible. I have NEVER seen, and I've gone to many Mexican restaurants, where the taco platter came with only ONE taco.

I've been eating at these places for years. The ones I mentioned give a single large taco rather than two small soft tacos.

Weird right?

There's a trend at (real) Mexican restaurants, where the price of combos doesn't make sense.
I've noticed this at nearly every family owned Mexican restaurant.

Here's an example:

A La Carte:
Taco - $2.25
Rice & Beans plate - $2.99

Price for 2 tacos and rice and beans a la carte: $7.49

Lunch Special:
2 Tacos + Rice & Beans: $8.25

This is true for nearly every combo meal - lunch or dinner - where I've found ordering a la carte saves anywhere from .50 to 2.00 $.

What's the deal with this?
"Real" Mexican restaurants don't serve "combo plates". Everything is a la carte. The combo plate thing is uniquely US/Canada except for some touristy places in Mexico.

So as far as this post goes, what was the point of saying (real)? As compared to what?

Really? This sets you off that much? You must live a very comfortable life. My suggestion is you order precisely what you want and don't concern yourself with whatever combos or deals are available for the suckers out there.

Or you could ask the management for a clarification of their pricing policy.
