I make about half a gallon of tea (semi-sweet and using Luzianne iced tea blend) and generally never let it last more than 2 days (most of the time I end up throwing it out if it lasts more than 1.5 days in the fridge). I think this tends to ensure I drink the freshest tea possible aside from having to make a new pitcher ever day. I notice that after 1.5 days, the taste changes (also seems to get cloudy). I even use one of those air sealing pitchers, but it doesn't matter -- 2 says still seems to be too long to hold tea.

How long do you guys general keep tea in your fridge?

Well, it depends.

First of all, I usually have 4-5 bottles in there....and tend to quaff about a half a gallon a day. But then again, I have picked up the habit of using tea as the liquid for my stews so if I don't chug it down, it tends to disappear the other way.

It tastes freshest for about two days to me. After that, it's drinkable but not great.

"Opening the bottle" ? I make a gallon of cold brew ice tea each day. But if left unused, I agree with 2 days max it starts to get a little funky and eventually forms a sort of slime. Hot brewed tea is possibly shorter lived. But, now it's been years since I've actually heated tea bags in water.

I make at least one half-gallon pitcher a day, unsweetened. I drink it too fast to worry about how long it will take to go bad.

I have not found a good "bottled tea" ... those mentioning bottled tea, what brand do you use?

I cannot make a decent pitcher of tea so I buy a gallon from a local restaurant and if any is left (rare) I throw it out on the second day. I like my tea strong and sweet with a half slice of lemon. I will drink it unsweetened when trying to get rid of a few pounds.

My first ex MIL made 2 1/2 gallons of tea at a time, using tea leaves instead of bags and pouring it in the 1/2 gallon bottles through cheese cloth. Only the bottle they were drinking out of went in the fridge, the others left on the counter. Took about 5 days till they were ready to open the last bottle.
