I like all veggies....but the only one I have never, ever tried is "Ocra" (*sp) ????
Can someone tell me, what the heck that is????
I guess, they eat it a lot in the south, as a fried dish?????

okra is used in stews, gumbo, deep-fried, pickled, lots of other ways that I am not awake enough to remember right now, and is totally wonderful, in my opinion.
I grew up in the midwest, where it was common, but a lot of folks would say its a southern thing, sure grows like crazy down here.

Fried okra is a staple in the southern diet! We would make a batter, then put it in cornmeal, and fry it up. Very delicious! I don't like it any other way, as it is a slimy little veggie!!

the trick to the slime thing is to cook it enough.
My aunt would make the most sublime dish in the summer from tomatoes, corn, and okra, with bacon, and a sweet/sour sauce.
Everything was just out of the garden, except for Porky!
Tomatoes diced, corn sliced off the cob, the okra would be blanched, maybe a bit more to get rid of "slime". Everything mixed together after bacon was sauted, and simmered for about a half-hour.
Wonderful, fresh, and not a hint of "slime"....... will post recipe, its one of my summertime staples!

I hate most vegetables, except artichokes and spinach.

Since most people hate spinach, I'll say that.
