I have 2, but the one I think was the worst was at work during lunch one day, many years ago. We had ordered Chinese food to go. I am sitting with 2 friends, visiting and enjoying my lunch when I bit into one of those red hot Chinese peppers. I had put the entire thing in my mouth. Both of my friends started to call for help, they thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. I guess I just turned as red as the pepper. I love my hot food, but have never done that again. We all know there isn't too much you can do, except wait for the burn to go away. Yes, drinking milk or eating something salty will help.

Did you react like the lady in the video I posted?
When my daughter was 8 or 9 she accidentally ate a Chinese hot pepper from my plate because she thought it was a bit of tomato. We were in a restaurant and she let out a scream, clutched her throat and started choking with tears streaming from her eyes. She scared me and my husband to death! When we realized the problem, we got her a large glass of milk (even a couple of servers rushed over with small glasses of milk) and she eventually calmed down. She glared at me for the remainder of the meal as if it were my fault for having it in the first place!

Oh, I ate one of those once. Accidentally, of course! I nearly threw up from the heat and the bitterness, and I turned many shades of red, too. Never again.

Lol. It's good when they're whole; you can just pick them out. But sometimes they'll cut them up. That's a challenge.
And, yeah, milk is supposed to be better for it than water.

We went to a Chinese buffet restaurant once and they had some wasabi sauce out. I thought it was guacamole although thinking it through now why would they have guacamole at a Chinese Restaurant? I covered my eggroll in it. You can guess the rest of that scenario.

People who sneak food off my plate without asking have a special circle in hell, I think. Even worse, is the generous soul who donates things on my plate in a restaurant without asking, just depositing things from their own dish they don't want.
While I sympathize with your daughter's experience (my own daughter is 10), I hope she stopped swiping food from others' dishes after this incident. My kids aren't too fond of hot peppers either, so it's usually when I eat out that I like to fire it up. Cooking at home is usually on the mild side.
I have never used milk for spicy hot I always use celery.
