Eating hot chiles is like having a fire drill. All of the bells and whistles go off, and it feels like the place is burning down. In reality there is no damage, and it was never dangerous.
Capsaicin is used for arthritis pain, and may possibly cure stomach ulcers. It has a coagulant affect.
It's a gimmick. Macho guys love to take the challenge, and when you think about it, eat a lot, too.
Though with that much heat, how much can you taste?
I love chilis, but the super-hot sauces and preparations usually add artificially concentrated Capsaicin - like in Dave's Hot Sauce. It isn't just regular crushed chilis, vinegar, salt.
Why would anyone waste their money on something like this is beyond me. You should eat something because it's good, not because it's gives you bragging rights. Hot and spicy are two different things (imo), spicy implies flavor, hot is just... well, hot. Who wants hot with no flavor, ugh!
There was a place outside of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Vicksburg I believe) that had wings so hot you had to sign a waiver. They had great food. Unfortunately, they went broke quickly because they had a very stupid name...."The Ragin' Cajun Roadkill Grill". Nothing like a little roadkill to fill you up for dinner.
