Nothing. Both my youngest and I are seriously under the weather, so we both skipped dinner and headed for bed. I have no idea what the others ate. I still feel awful this morning. Maybe someone will take pity on me and make me a nice cup of tea.
I follow an extremely superstitious eating code for New Years that I started over 20 years ago.
I eat chicken on New Years Eve. Pork on New Years Day.
Reason? A chicken when it eats, scratches backward, so if you eat chicken on New Years Day, your year will go backward. When a pig eats, it pushes it forward. So, when you eat pork on New Years Day, your year will go forward.
So yesterday, I had the rest of my grocery deli chicken. Today I'm having pizza, with pepperoni that has pork. For extra reinforcement, I'm thawing some bacon to get my pork quota in.
I just finished cutting up the Collards and they are starting to boil. The black eyed peas, ham and corn bread won't take long to fix. I've got a big Vidalia onion ready to slice.
Pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, Texas black-eyed pea salad/dip and some green beans. Smoked two hunks of pork shoulder last night- started at 4:30p.m. and out of the smoker around 1:00a.m.- turned out great!
We had appetizers of scallops wrapped in bacon and lobster ragoon before we went out for pizza and drinks at a local place and came home well before midnight. We had a variety of cheeses and crackers/breads to nibble while we played games.
For today we have red lentils cooked in homemade chicken and garlic stock.....and tonight we are going out to a restaurant know for it's grill.
