I had the same problem as I have a glass top stove, SO i bought one of these. It's at 12k BTU which is plenty of heat.

Amazon.com: Iwatani Corporation of America ZA-3HP Portable Butane Stove Burner: Kitchen & Dining

It's fueled by butane canisters which you pick can pickup just about anywhere. I think I paid about $7 for 4 cans at my local Asian grocery. Camping stores would carry them too.

Also, beware of cheap knockoffs. This brand is pretty high quality and at around $35 is entirely worth it. Not only that but it's perfectly safe for indoor use and will double as a camping stove or for when the power goes out.

My carbon steel wok is going on 30 years old and it's still fantastic. When I had a gas stove, I didn't bother with the ring I just set the wok on the grate over the flame.

For true Wok Hei you need to cook with gas at a high heat.

I set up a 100,000btu burner in my outdoor patio kitchen and use hand hammered carbon steel woks. A highschool buddy of mine gets them from some supplier in China.

I can boil water almost instantly.

Definitely not a setup for the uninitated.

Yep - my 65,000 BTU burner is more than enough to get wok-hei. Wok-hei is what most people lack when they cook a Chinese dish at home and can't quite figure-out what's missing.
