I think I'm the only person on the planet who hasn't been to a Cheesecake Factory.
My favs are Ruth's Chris, Morton's and Delfrisco's Double Eagle (yes, I'm a carnivore ).
Ate at Del Frisco's this past weekend. OH MY GOD, best steak I've ever had, by FAR!!!! The service was amazing, I felt like a celebrity, they really go out of thier way to make your dinning experience the best it could be.

Im in the suburbs, which are overcrowded with chains. There are still TONS of independant restaurants that we hit up, but to list those Id need several pages. LOL

BTW, someone is bashing your beautiful Chicago over on the chicago rivals thread, i started after them, go check it out.
Claim Jumper is mainly on the West Coast but I've seen it in Las Vegas too. Their locations are in huge, wooden, log cabin style formats & they have general fare such as ribs, steaks, rotisserie, but have a particularly extensive menu & interesting appetizers & desserts. (They have a concoction with a creme brulee top & lemon bar base, and they also sell party-size cakes the size of a head! contrast that with cupcakes, which they also have)
Thank goodness for my high metabolism!
Looks like the farthest east they're located is Illinois, which would help to explain why you're not familiar with them.
