I've wondered why eating them wouldn't be a good solution to the problem.

I've eaten Minnesota carp which was presented to me as smoked "lake trout." Hah. Found it to be quite tasty

You couldn't pay me to eat that stuff.

So the American version should be better! Invasivores unite!

Maybe it could be ground up into patties and served to prisoners, school children, and other wards of the government.

That is one of the approaches that a number of the chefs took in preparing the fish. That sounds like it should work.

Yeah, that's the way to get a food to catch on -- serve it in school lunches!

I have never seen Asian carp served or sold anywhere. To me, fish is just about always tasty as long as they don't fcrew it up -- think of all the overcooked, rubbery calamari you've ever tried to eat. Considering that Asian carp eat plankton, I wonder what you would use as bait to catch one. Some people report favorably on the taste but you would have to do some careful marketing. Some people are successfully selling them as "silverfin."

Local (MD, USA) Asian restaurants serve carp and buffalo, which is similar. I think they come from midwest waters. They serve it in a sauce loaded with peppers. I tried it. Meat was OK but I was constantly spitting out small bones.(into my napkin, of course).

Other folks there were enjoying it.

I caught one about 10 lbs one day and decided to give it a try. I kept it on ice until I prepared it. I was armed with several sharp implements, none of which was ideal for the task. Carp had tough, large scales and they made it difficult to fillet. I would up doing a hybrid gut/fillet/hack (carp have alot of blood) job but wound up with some nice pieces of meat. I soaked the meat in milk for several hours and then fried some up in a pan. Mushy and dark and no thank you. I would rather open a can of tuna...

Carp will eat anything. That can be a problem with the way they taste (you are what you eat). I caught this one from a large flowing rocky bottomed river (slightly tidal: Lower Susquehanna) .

That's the only places fish have to live these days. Not because of them. Because of us.
