My husband enjoys the Hormel canned hams. I slice it thin for sandwiches, he has it in eggs, or just on a plate with some melted cheese on top. I also dice the ham and fry it and add it to split pea soup. Well 2 weeks ago I went to Aldi and they had a canned ham but it was half the size maybe a little bigger than a can of spam. I thought it would be similar to the Hormel brand. Nope!!! It was exactly like spam, Hubby tried it but said do not buy it again. I guess you live and you learn.

We buy canned meats sometimes to stretch our budget. But sometimes name brands do make a difference. We also go to f discount grocery stores. Aldi's has some things I've liked, but I've done better shopping at actual "bent and dent" (banana box) stores and Save Alot, etc. At the banana box stores you can actually find brands you prefer. We've purchased Starbuck's coffee for a song, as well as gluten free items (with 2 Celiacs and 1 Wheat allergy in the family, it is hard to afford it "regular priced" at the big stores) and more. We rarely buy anything from a "regular" grocery store any more; and our meats and produce are nearly always as fresh and 1/2 the price as Wal-Mart, etc. But sometimes if we cannot find what we need anywhere else, we'll shop Wal-Mart, Kroeger, etc.
