I like *some* ice in a soda in a restaurant (hopefully the server would give me a refill in a timely manner w/o my having to wait til 5 minutes before we leave). At home, as long as it's cold, that's fine but ideally I'd go w/ a large ice cube or 2 (am a fan of the 'king ice cube trays', they take up less room in the refrigerator and last a long longer than the small or regular ice cube trays, especially in the hot summer, it seems to quench my thirst more.
And also, for me personally, it goes to my first job when I was 16 years old and I worked as a bus boy in a family style restaraunt where I was taught to fill the glasses completely full of ice and then pour the soft drink in it.
The reasoning behind that practice was so it would take nearly half the amount of the soft drink to fill the glass than it would if the glass had no ice in it at all....In other words, because the price of the soft drink stays the same regardless if the glass is full of ice or not, the customer was being ripped off by the restaraunt when their soft drink was full of ice.
I worked that job in 1970 but I'm guessing alot of restaraunts still do that sort of thing, so, I still make it a point to ask for no ice in my soft drinks.
Whenever you go to the restaurant and get a drink cup for the soda fountain (or to the movies as another example), do you like to have a lot of ice with your drink? Or no ice? Maybe a little bit?
I personally like to get a lot of ice, because I like my soda very cold and the sensation of drinking it with a lot of ice. Makes it taste better for me.
I suppose you get less drink per cup, but if it's refillable doesn't really matter right?
I also like ice that's not large sized cubes. I prefer the smaller ice.
No ice for me thanks.
I don't really understand the American obsession with ice. Ice machines everywhere. The waiters not asking you if you want ice or not. As a European, it has always felt a little weird to me. (not a criticism, just an observation. To each their own!)
Plenty of ice especially if there are free refills. I hate places that serve/dispense their tea hot. Melts all your ice immediately and dilutes the drink! What's the problem with at least having an extra container of tea mixed and allowed to at least come down to room temp before serving?

What's the problem with at least having an extra container of tea mixed and allowed to at least come down to room temp before serving?
