A good fresh homemade tomato salsa makes a good salad dressing and that's 100% healthy. You can leave the salt out if blood pressure is an issue.

I need to start making my own dressing again. The couple of brands left that had listed just canola oil in their ingredients now list canola/soy... everything else is soybean oil, an industrial oil high in omega 6 fats that is not the most healthy. The ones that list "olive oil" are usually not 100% olive oil and just a mix of olive/soybean.

Not to mention the high sodium levels... you'd think some makers of dressing would smarten up and see there's a demand for salad dressings that are both high oleic, meaning higher in omega 9 fats, and have a 50/50 blend of sodium and potassium salt so that salt consumption on a high salad diet isn't so high.. but there is NO brand that fits the bill...

They never seem to mention the amount of omega 6 and omega 9 fats on the label either.. I wish the government would mandate that requirement.

I was making my own ranch dressing with buttermilk as well as my own Italian style vinaigrette but lost both recipes... time for some googling.

You could try my above Italian-style vinaigrette recipe, fiddling with it to your likes. It's not bad!

I just thought I'd mention, if there is anyone left on the planet who hasn't heard about it, if you have your dressing on the side and dip your fork in it before each bite, you will be shocked at how little dressing you will use. Since I do this, I have whatever dressing I want.
