If I could afford it, I'd eat out way more often than I do now. But then my waistline would probably be much bigger.
I find the taste of most meals at restaurants tend to be mediocre. They only seem to taste good because of all the salt, fat and sugar that is put into it which isn't healthy in the long-run when consumed on a frequent basis.
I much rather make my own meals at home. Much healthier and save $$$$$
I love going out to a nice restaurant. I also like to cook a good meal if I'm not in a hurry. It is sometimes hard to plan meals around a busy husband.
Less than 60 percent of suppers served at home were actually cooked at home last year
I'm actually surprised it's not less than 50%. When my kids were in school and still living at home, it seemed like most of the other parents I knew never cooked evening meals. They all worked 2 jobs and one of them stopped on the way home from work for take-out.
DH and I are semi-retired and I'd guess that 85% of all our meals are home-cooked. We treat ourselves on weekends.
It's a huge fallacy that cooking takes a lot of time. It's propaganda perpetuated by food companies.
In less than one hour, a person could prep a whole chicken & veggies, a roast, and a family size pasta dish. Throw all 3 in the oven. Do this on Sunday and the family has dinner all week. Faster, cheaper, and healthier than eating out.
I am surprised too. I thought more people started cooking at home during the recession and can't believe it would reverse so soon. I prefer to cook at home most of the time.

Me too. It can be a PIA to eat out around here because of traffic, parking, and the expense. Also, I don't like waiting and if the place is busy the wait can be long. Not to mention I would be consuming less healthy ingredients and gaining weight.
I only eat out as a social activity or when traveling, and then it's fun. If I had to do it every day for all my regular meals, it would get old very fast.
When my job was more deadline-heavy, I would eat out almost every day. Now I only eat out on weekends for the most part - I'm cooking at home a lot more now and freezing meals. It makes life easier. My roommate and I spend every Sunday cooking our meals for the coming week and then some.
I haven't started to lose weight yet, but the money situation is improving.
