If you're gonna make Bubble and squeak with the leftovers, I recommend adding cooked rutabaga. In my mind the best bubble and squeak you can make is cabbage, pots, and rutabaga. season with a bit of salt and white pepper.

Don't know much about Irish cooking. Sounds like some of you here know your stuff.

It'll either be corned beef and cabbage or a couple of reuben sandwiches. That's the best I can do.
We aren't a fan of boiled dinners so we braise our corned beef and usually have it on rye. It's a fave and I think it counts.

I've never made corned beef and cabbage. I'm trying this year, and I have to do it in the slow cooker, because I won't get home until 4:30. I need to start it before I leave, so the corned beef will be in there for 9 hours at least. What time do I have my husband put the cabbage in on top? 1 hour? 2 hours?

See my crockpot corned beef recipe in the recipe forum. I put everything in at once and cook on low 8 hours. I like my cabbage soft. I put the corned beef on top of the vegetables and add a bottle of beer.

I put the cabbage in for maybe the last 45 minutes of cooking and monitor it. I don't like the cabbage to get waterlogged.

Both of my father's parents were born in Ireland, but there's no way you'd get me to eat cooked cabbage. And I prefer corned beef in its Jewish form, extra lean on a sandwich (rye), with cole slaw and Russian dressing.
