Hi All,

I was purusing through the isles at FairWay a few days ago and came across almond butter. I purchased a small packet of it for about $1.25.

I tasted it and fell in love!! It tastes sooooo good!

So, I went back to buy a jar, and saw that a simple jar is super expensive!!!!

The prices ranged from $6.99-$18.98 per jar!

Ridiculous!

The problem is I like it very much but am having some issues with the thought of spending that much money on a 12oz jar of anything.

Do you like almond butter? Do you think it's worth the price?

Aside from eating it directly out of the container, what other ways do you eat it (eg with fruit? sandwiches? etc)?

It's okay, cashew butter is where it's at.

The price is the price because almonds aren't that easy to grow and they take a lot of water.

"...agriculture uses 80% of the water in California but accounts for less than 2% of the economy. So how much water does almond production alone use? More water is used in almond production than is used by all the residents and businesses of San Francisco and Los Angeles combined."

I use nut butters on bread mostly for lunches at work, you can drop some in a shake, or put some on waffles/pancakes or in oatmeal.

Love almond butter! Especially the crunchy kind. I use it on sandwiches or toast, so much better than PB in my opinion. Hazelnut butter is even better but even more expensive because it's only available in a couple of brands. I get almond butter at Trader Joe's, don't remember the price but it's very reasonable, and considerably cheaper than everywhere else.

I love it and won't pay $10 for a jar. Luckily it's easy to make, here's one way. I add ghiradelli sweet ground chocolate powder to mine.

A layer of almond butter on white bread topped by another layer of cream cheese, fold and eat. It's not healthy, but better than a candy bar.
