$100 wouldn't buy dinner for two at the three nicest places in our town. All three are independently owned and focus on locally sourced food as much as possible. For an appetizer, two entrees (steak, duck, or salmon most likely), a shared dessert, and a couple of drinks each it would be priced close to $150-200. The local steak house in our town would be in the same range.
We typically spend about $60-80 at a local mid-scale restaurant for a similar meal in our town.
Even a trip to a chain runs about $40-60 for two.
For $100 I would head to our local butcher shop and pick up a couple of nice filets. The total would be close to $100 if I added a nice bottle of wine. We usually have our favorite liquors in the pantry.
