Nobody has to know whether or not your Coke has rum in it.

Although I despise rum and coke.

I remember those days at 20 years old, staying out all night long drinking till 4 am, sleeping 2 hours on someone's floor, then getting up and going into work for another 8 hours. NO IDEA how we did it, lol. I feel your pain. I'm a 1 drink wonder these days.

I dont drink alcohol at all. If I am in a social gathering where I would feel better with a drink in my hand, I usually choose half selzer and half cranberry or half tonic and half cranberry.

Another alternative as has been mentioned here is a Virgin Mary.

It is always interesting to see how people who are drinking the hard stuff change after a few drinks. I feel better abstaining.

Sadly, it doesn't make the rum disappear.

My husband and I quit drinking years ago and still go to the bars with friends. We drink non-alcoholic beer. Most bars and restaurants have something better than O'Douls (St. Pauli N/A is pretty good once you get used to the switch off alcohol). I admit, I DO feel more like "one of the gang" when I'm drinking an N/A beer. I also order a "coke with cherries". Something about a maraschino cherry that makes a coke look and feel like a rum and coke. And if I'm feeling festive, I'll order a virgin margarita, blended with salt. It's a little more sour without the tequila, but still tasty on a sunny day. And unless anyone heard you ordering it, no one would know by looking at it that it's non-alcoholic.

Good for you, by the way. The shift off alcohol was hard to adjust to at first, but we've done so much more with our lives since quitting, I wouldn't change the decision for anything. We used to sit at the bar all afternoon and talk about all the things we were going to do "some day". Now we actually do them.

My husband makes me mock Margaritas, and they are indeed more sour...but good.

When I can get them, I find mock strawberry margaritas way better. I didn't mention it fearing that might be too "froo-froo" for a guy.

My non-alcoholic drink of choice is Perrier and lime. Don't really care for the faux drinks but I am one of those who never wants to be out of control and not wake up wondering what happened the night before, so water with lime or lemon has always worked for me.
