I suppose fat being the main consideration here. I use butter in my coffee instead of half and half because I sort of assumed that they are the same thing but under a different physical form. How does their fat content compare?

Butter has more fat as it is made from heavy cream. Half and half is half cream and half milk.

According to google (first result), fat content of butter per tablespoon is 12 g. Fat content of 1/2 and 1/2 is 1.7 g. per tablespoon.

And they are nowhere NEAR the same thing.

Butter in coffee? Ugh!!! I hope your arteries aren't clogged. I am not a fan of half and half in coffee but used in moderation I'd rather put that in my coffee instead of butter.

Wasn't butter in coffee, i.e. the so-called "Bulletproof Coffee," the Trend of the Moment back a few months ago?

I'll skip it. But coffee with half & half is indeed my preference, though I'll drink it black as well.

I tried bulletproof coffee for a few days--mixed some unsalted, grass-fed butter and coconut oil into my coffee...it's actually tasty if you don't add too much. The higher caloric content kept me fuller longer, but I prefer the taste of cream or milk in my coffee.

I don't like milk (or nondairy creamer) in my coffee, but half and half, light cream, or heavy cream is great.

Yes, reading ''Keto Clarity" I did the coconut oil in coffee and WOOWW...I could go 5-6 hrs
with no food and have SO much mental clarity, no hunger...and I used to be hypoglycemic...so I really can sense any loss of energy, and mental clarity since
the brain uses glucose...but it likes fat better!!

In Keto Clarity the author will go out for a steak (no carbs at all) and each
bite eat a pad of butter on the steak...he has lost weight and all his numbers are back down to normal.

Coconut oil is a bottled heart attack.

Half-and-half, for most people, will be better than butter. One can very liberally apply a lot of butter, but most are stingier with half-and-half (cost?).
