Real Japanese Ramen soup. I love katsu tan tan ramen.

I had my first bowl of Real Japanese Ramen Soup six weeks ago in the Chicago suburbs. It was really good.

I did not have access to yogurt or feta cheese until my college days.

I "discovered" Vietnamese food as well as pastrami and corned beef in Montreal in college.

Which I interpret to mean brined and smoked brisket, which we simply call "smoked meat" here. Every U.S. state has a state flower... we have smoked meat.

And if you didn't have it "medium" (because we all know that there's flavor in the fat), then you have to come back, because "lean smoked meat" is a travesty.

Shawarma here, too, in the middle of the Midwest! I know you're in Alaska, but you don't have to go all the way to the Middle East for it!

Ruth Reichl's Tender at the Bone made me salivate in her descriptions of smoked meat she ate while sneaking away from boarding school in Montreal.

Big Macs. First I ever heard of them was in about 1972, when I was 35 years old.

Lobster is definitely one. Never had it as a kid and now I loooove it. As a kid I always thought they looked big and scary lol. Crab legs is another one. Asparagus is a food I was offered as a kid but never tried because I thought it looked gross. Love it now. Shepherd's pie is another one i had never even seen as a child let alone tasted. It's pretty good. I can't think of anything else right now :-)
