I recently bought some strawberry ice cream about a liter of it. Its been a while since i tasted strawberry ice cream. The taste didn't taste exactly like how i recalled it used to taste. If you smell it, it has a bit of a smell. However any strawberry ice cream i ever bought was always neopolitan.

Is it most likely the ice cream is expired? It does say expiration is 2017 or so but it doesn't taste like strawberry ice cream to me that much. Theres also a bit of ice at the top and i read that mean its expired most likely?

Do some research regarding frost-free freezers.

If you want the best, you'll probably have to make it yourself.

For a no cook version of ice cream, try: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/perfect-no-cook-strawberry-ice-cream-354503

Or for the more traditional method of cooking a custard first and then mixing in the fruit and freezing it:

It's best to get fresh strawberries at the peak of the season for this.

It probably wasn't kept at temperature and went thru a few partial thaws and re-freeze cycles and that threw off the taste and texture.

And if it was cheaply made in the first place, there probably wasn't much true strawberry flavor in there to begin with
