Wednesday evening, my new daughter in law's parents are coming for dinner. We haven't met them before.

I am making tried and true, make ahead foods...
Curry cheese ball and shrimp with cocktail sauce, appetizers

Salad with spring greens, strawberries and candied pecans, with poppy seed dressing.
Chicken Dijon (butter, garlic, Dijon, parmesan, parsley, fresh crumbs)
Party potatoes (mashed with sour cream and cream cheese)
The dreaded green bean casserole (since its almost TG and my DIL likes it)
Rolls and butter

Pecan Pie for dessert

My feeling is that the dinner is too white. I would normally have a bright colored vegetable, and not the green beans with mushroom soup, but I want to make those for my DIL. Maybe I should add some glazed carrots, or butternut squash?

I think it's just fine as is - between the salad and the casserole, it isn't too white in my opinion. It sounds wonderful, to tell you the truth!

I might add carrots, though - if only because some people refuse to eat green bean casserole. I don't QUITE believe it (especially because I can eat green bean casserole as a MEAL), but I'm told they do exist.

So, I appreciate all the comments. Some of my rep comments got a bid garbled, I think. Not sure why.

What I'm thinking, really, is, if I were in their place, I wouldn't care what was on the menu, but I'd just be relieved my daughter didn't marry into a totally weird family. We'll just be on good behavior and hope for the best.

Maine, we are definitely the yuppie parents in that scenario. The inlaws are from Puerto Rico, and we speak no Spanish. They, fortunately, speak English. Anyway, DIL is a great girl, so I'm sure her parents are great too.
