We never had rice growing up, so I hardly ever make it. I eat low carb now, so I never eat it, but DH likes it more, so I make it for him, and he has about a cupful.
I make for the four of us, 1 1/2 cup of dried rice to 3 cups of water. I first saute the rice a bit in butter to get it hot and toasty before adding the water. This is perfect for us with no leftovers as I make it daily.
We too love rice and have several varieties at hand. Currently there's red rice, white short grain, sweet rice, jasmine and basmati in my house. Oh and a few vigo packs of yellow rice and red beans/rice.
It fills me and I only eat one big meal a day and a breakfast sandwich with hashbrown for breakfast and usually a sandwich or cup of soup or cereal for my third meal, I'm not overweight either, I used to be but I ate worse and now that I got dogs that I walk twice a day I lost 60 pounds in 2 year, which it the best way to lose weight and keep it off, gradually.
I bet I could eat a quart of shrimp fried rice. I wish there was a rice eating contest
I also prefer dry foods to wet. So I can eat rice and a potato frittata and enjoy it.
There is a rice eating contest. I saw one guy eat 19POUNDS of it. I have no idea how he did it either. He is a little skinny guy too! Here you go...
I stopped eating white rice years ago. There still might be some around the house as emergency food. A few years ago, however, I went entirely to using brown rice.
As to how much, I usually use about three scoop fulls in my stews which is probably about 1/6th of a cup.
I love rice and eat lots of it. 1 cup is my usual serving. I eat more if I'm very hungry.
