If anyone has any tips on how to avoid the culinary pitfalls come dinner time on the ship I'm all ears.
most ships do have light choices on the menu. We cruise quite often and have learned to eat somewhat less but we are on vacation. Still, there really is no reason to gain 10 lbs like in past years. We rarely gain more than a few and generally take it off a few days or weeks after we return. Remember, the ships are so large now days you can walk off the 2000 calories you had for dinner last night, just getting to your cabin.
Say no to desserts, that will help, just enjoy yourself and don't worry about a few lbs.

ok for dinner tonight: chicken thighs, bean salad, and squash.

I started draining yoghurt last night. I am, after I am done posting, going to make a batch of tzatziki with it. I will serve it at dinner with a platter of feta, raw celery and carrots, kalamata olives and toasted Syrian bread. I am also making a batch of lamb stuffed grape leaves. They taste so good dipped in tzatziki!!

salad sounds yummy. Love the idea of herring, we don't eat nearly as much here as you do in Canada. As or the beer, well thank goodness I am not a beer drinker cause I still have 4 more days on my darn meds and can't have any booze.
